Child Support Enforcement (IV-D)

Child Support Enforcement (IV-D)

Child Support Enforcement (IV-D) is a nationwide program set by Congress in 1975 to make sure parents support their children to the extent of their ability. The basic services in Child Support are:

  1. Absent parent location
  2. Establishment of paternity for illegitimate children
  3. Establishment of legal support obligations
  4. Collection of support payment
  5. Enforcement of support obligations

All parents or custodians of minor children are entitled to services from the Child Support program regardless of income level.  All parents or custodians receiving WFFA and/or Medicaid who have an absent parent(s) are required to be referred to Child Support. Any individual not receiving this assistance, may file an application for services and on payment of a small fee, receive full range of services.
