     (FY 2007-2008)


Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP)

This program is a grants program for households to offset rising costs of new energy.  Eligibility and check amounts are determined by income in the home and type of fuel used.  It is a one-time cash payment for which applications are accepted in the Fall and payments are made the first week of February.  It is not the purpose of the program to pay all of a household’s heating bills.


Services For The Blind

Adjustment services, demands of daily living, health support, individual family adjustment and in-home aide services.


Medical Transportation

Transportation to medical appointments is provided, arranged or reimbursed for individuals who are eligible for this service.


Program Integrity And Investigation

County departments are responsible for preventing, detecting and investigating situations involving erroneous payments within the Public Assistance Programs.  When an investigation results in an erroneous payment the Income Maintenance Investigator must follow procedures outlined in the appropriate manuals for establishing claims and recovering any resulting overpayments.


Careline

This is a statewide, toll-free telephone service providing quick, accurate information and/or referral to the citizens of North Carolina.  It is the State’s only human service information and referral office. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. except holidays. The number is 1-800-662-7030.


Satellite Office - Indian Reservation

A satellite office in Cherokee provides Food Stamps, Medicaid, AFDC and Social Work Services.
